But to Vijender’s own admission ‘this Chinese product did last long’.Braving strong punches from his younger opponent, Vijender ultimately escaped with a 96-93, 95-94, 95-94 verdict in his favour. “He is a young kid and I appreciate him. He tried well. But both tiltes are still with me,” Vijender wearing bruises of a bloodied nose told India Today post win. With this ninth successive win since turning pro, Vijender is now a double title holder, winning Zulpikar’s Oriental Super Middleweight title as well. But having billed the fight into an India-China clash, Vijender was quick to indulge into a moment of diplomacy. “I offered him my title. It’s all about peace. I am saying take this belt but don’t come to my territory. Tell your people to behave with India. I don’t think he understood. But my message was about peace. Hindi Chini bhai bhai,” he explained his offer. The last time Hindi Chini bhai bhai pitch was raised the reciprocation wasn’t conducive. But, for Vijender, perhaps the message was symbolic, one with which he also attempts to score a political point.Having Amitabh Bachchan and Baba Ramdev in attendence, Vijender couldn’t regale the Mumbai crowd with a knockout punch he promised. India’s first boxing Olympic medallist blamed Zulpikar’s dirty play for his lack lustere showing in the final few rounds.advertisementZulpikar was given an official warning in the sixth round and docked points for hitting below the belt. “I didn’t expect the fight to go to the 10th round. When he hit below the belt, I got distracted and that changed everything. But ultimately victory matters,” he added.Going with the flavour of the contest, Vijender would be happy to have beaten the Chinese as promised but with the younger opponent packing a punch, the star boxer would know he would need to up his game to overcome stiffer challenges.SINGH IS KING! @boxervijenderWBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight title ??WBO Oriental Super Middleweight title ??#BattleGroundAsia IOS Boxing (@IOSBoxing) August 5, 2017He came.He saw.He [email protected] kept his unbeaten record in Pro-Boxing intact! #BattleGroundAsia IOS Boxing (@IOSBoxing) August 5, 2017A moment to cherish for all of us!
