first_imgEd de Goey believes Jose Mourinho has made the right call in selecting Thibaut Courtois as his Chelsea number one.The young Belgian goalkeeper was selected ahead of Petr Cech by Mourinho on Monday night for their opening Premier League game of the new season and helped the Blues beat Burnley 3-1.“He looks very confident, he looks very well, and also with the crosses it looked so easy for him,” said former Chelsea and Holland stopper De Goey, speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.“If you have two excellent goalkeepers like you have now at Chelsea, you have to look to the future and with Thibaut Courtois, who is much younger than Cech, they are doing that.“Petr has done very well in the last decade he has played but I think, personally, they have to look to the future. With Courtois, you have a young, promising goalkeeper, who is an excellent goalkeeper.”Following a decade as Chelsea’s number one, Cech’s future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain after his demotion.Mourinho insists he wants the 32-year-old to stay and fight for his place, and De Goey hopes he does just that.“I would push to try to get back into the team,” said the Dutchman. “He is an excellent goalkeeper, an excellent pro, so he will want his place back and if he keeps working, he will be hoping to get a chance.”last_img
